In 2014, after assisting in arranging, describing, and physically processing the James Gunderson and Peter Coha Comic Book Collection, I created an exhibition of some of those comic books to showcase the work of Marie Severin, one of the first and most well-known female comic book artists.
I worked with four standing exhibit cases with three shelves each. Each exhibit case was themed around a different phase of Marie Severin's professional life and showcased some of her work from each of those phases. I chose the materials, physically installed them, and created all captions and labels. Below, you will find photographs of each shelf in the exhibit as well as caption information for each case.
The backgrounds of the exhibit cases display enlarged versions of the pages of a comic book that James Gunderson, the donor of the collection, commissioned to be created about Marie Severin's career.
Materials in the James Gunderson and Peter Coha Comic Book Collection are available to be viewed in Special Collections & Archives at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
